From Chris Hedges:
The desiccation of our liberal institutions ensured the demise of our capitalist democracy. History has amply demonstrated what was to come next. The rot and political paralysis vomited up a con artist as president along with an array of half-wits, criminals and racist ideologues. They will manufacture scapegoats as their gross ineptitude and unachievable promises are exposed. They will fan the flames of white supremacy and racial and religious bigotry. They will use all the tools of legal and physical control handed to them by our system of “inverted totalitarianism” to crush even the most tepid forms of dissent.
There are those of us who opposed the Clintons to avert war and free trade. We also oppose the Christofascists and Libertarians who support Trump, but are among the GOP establishment which was also rejected. The appointment of Jeff Sessions as AG sends a clear message that the paleocon promises made by Trump are being kept. And this terrifies the left, of which Hedges is in the intellectual pantheon.
Trump appears to be practicing some gamesmanship, as he enrages his supporters by meeting with archneocon, John Bolton, and previous GOP presidential contender, Mitt Romney. There are moderates who believe Romney would be an excellent choice for foggy bottom, given the current neocon and R2P infection of zealots.
Hedges does not consider Trump an effective impediment to the one world martial law crowd funded by the oligarchs. He considers Trump an oligarch, which he is not. This failure to recognize the enemy is endemic among the left. They remain terrorized by events which have yet to occur. I believe history is being misused to predict the future. Trump is meeting with lots of people with whom he does not agree. I’m not aware how this is a bad thing.
